You will be required to send specific shipment documentation, including an Import declaration form (IDF), Certificate of conformity (COC), Personal identification number (PIN) certificate, and Original certificate of registration or logbook of the vehicle in English to customs at least a month prior to the arrival of your car.
Once your vehicle arrives in Kenya, you will be charged a processing fee of USD 145 or EUR 120. Additionally, the OBL and AWB must show details of the vehicle, such as the chassis and engine number, make, model, color, etc.
If you cannot present proof that the vehicle is under your name and you haven’t owned it for over 12 months, then you will be charged approximately 61 percent in taxes of the total value of the car.
You should also present a certificate of roadworthiness for the vehicle to be allowed in Kenya. If your car is coming from Japan, Dubai, Singapore, South Africa, and the United Kingdom, you must obtain a certificate of conformity (COC) from your origin country. If you are bringing your car from another country other than these, then you will be required to pay a fee of EUR 150 for inspection in Kenya.

- You must have a vaccination record for your pets (a rabies certificate is a must). The rabies vaccination must be given within 12 months and one month prior to import.
- You must present a veterinary health certificate.

It is important to note that since the import permit takes approximately 30 days to be processed, you should apply for it before you travel. Additionally, pets are charged a duty of 25 percent and VAT of 16 percent upon arrival.
