Nellions, on its 8th anniversary, forms a strategic partnership with Lami to provide insurance products for homeowners and local moving clients, leveraging Digital Insurance.

Nairobi, Kenya. 14 July 2022: Relocations industry leader, Nellions Moving and Relocations, has partnered with Lami Technologies, a Kenyan-based insurance technology company, to provide Nellions’ clients with access to affordable and transformational insurance products through its digital platform.

As the company celebrates its eighth anniversary, this partnership will insure all its moves within Kenya at no additional cost and provide additional domestic insurance coverage to its clients. The parties have together issued over 400 policies since the testing phase of the partnership five months ago in February.

The collaboration will cushion the Kenyan consumers from household and moving-related risks through unrivaled insurance coverage. Nellions will be able to de-risk their risk portfolio and create access to a more extensive client base, focusing on their core business as Lami does in the insurance part. The first fruits of this partnership are two insurance policies; Goods-In-Transit cover that is embedded into all of Nellions’ residential household moves, as well as a comprehensive home insurance product — dubbed Sitiri — that is the first of its kind in the Kenyan market. Technology deployment to aid the onboarding and claims processing has genuinely given the partnership an edge. The embedded Goods-in-transit product helps cushion Nellions Moving clients against Moving-related risks such as loss, damage, or destruction of property during transit giving them peace of mind on the Move day.

Kenya’s insurance penetration rate is less than 3 percent, leaving many vulnerable to financial stress. Low adoption attributes to several factors, including a lack of awareness of available insurance products and inflexible and unaffordable offerings to most citizens.

To increase insurance uptake and allow more Kenyans access to coverage, the partnership aims to provide Nellions clients with an easy way to access products tailored to their specific needs.

Nellions has moved more than 15,000 families in Kenya and internationally through its core business operations and, therefore, faces higher scales of risk while handling the valuable items owned by its moving clients. The initiative is one of Lami’s objectives towards broadening access to insurance options for citizens living in residential homes from domestic risks, allowing the typical Nellions client to enjoy the peace of mind of having their property protected whenever they engage their services trusting them with their valuables.

Nellions is automatically offering these products to their end customers when purchasing their services, integrated with Lami’s insurance technology infrastructure, either while moving or as an additional home coverage option for renters and homeowners. The Nellions team and Lami are working with underwriters to customize flexible and affordable insurance products based on the market’s requirements.

Cosmas Kamuyu, C.E.O. at Nellions, noted, “Nellions is exactly eight years old today. We are delighted to celebrate this milestone with the launch of this partnership. We exist to offer peace of mind to our clients within their home spaces. After moving more than 15,000 families, we know how valuable household goods are to most people financially and sentimentally. We thought that we could help them protect against loss, and we are very happy that, in LAMI, we found a partner to help us achieve this.”

Adelaide Odhiambo, Partnerships Director at Lami, said, “Home insurance or sometimes referred to as a domestic package, is surprisingly one of the more affordable insurance policies yet. Unfortunately, most are overlooked or ignored by millions of households. We applaud Nellions for putting such a critical need for all their clients first.”

“Protecting your household items, guests, and workers is so critical to peace of mind by protecting the things you love and have worked so hard for. Join us in celebrating the launch of Sitiri plan and getting more homes in Kenya Insured.” She added.

As a trusted partner with proven use cases in the mobility space, Lami gets an opportunity to expand its outreach by providing insurance to Nellions clients and the masses through Nellions platforms, positioning Nellions as a go-to partner across different segments, moving and insurance.
